SYSTEM HIERARCHY and COMMUNICATIONS: The TA-RMS system is robust, easy to use, and yet accomplishes a wide variety of measurement and control tasks. TA RMS operates as an ethernet system with central control in the plant control room. TA RMS communicates with three broad classes of detectors and sub-systems. 1. Powerful, self-contained, detector-systems such as multi-channel StackTechnical Associates provides standard and custom designed radiation monitoring equipment to the nuclear plants in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Korea, Japan, China, and other countries. The latest generation of TA Digital Radiation Monitoring Equipment is a complete line of radiation monitors including noble gas monitors, off-line and at-line liquid monitors, particulate and iodine monitors as well as area Monitor CAMs have advanced computers built-in, which serve as ethernet nodes that communicate with the control room CPU /server via this network. 2. Simpler systems including single channel Air Monitors as well as some stand-alone Area Monitors have fully-addressable, two-way serial-ports that communicate with the control room CPU /server. 3. Finally, the large number of gamma and neutron area monitor detectors disbursed throughout most plants have local pre-amps, line-drivers and high-voltage-supplies, but are not able to communicate directly with the control room. Instead, they feed their pulses into the ET-20, a specialized computer, which also contains twenty simultaneous and independent counters. It analyzes these forty detector signals, and sends back signals to trip the local alarms as needed. It also serves as an ethernet node and communicates with the control room CPU /server. Optionally, it can also: acknowledge local alarms activate solenoid check sources DETECTOR TYPES: Noble gas monitors Off-line and at-line liquid monitors Particulate and iodine monitors Gamma area monitors Neutron area monitors Perimeter monitors Accident monitors Post-accident monitors N-16 leak monitors Tritium monitors Alpha beta gamma CAMs Stack monitors ... and more CHOICE OF SOFTWARE: Technical Associates offers a choice of software packages to operate this RMS system: * TA-RMS Soft-Pro is straight forward, robust, easy to use, and yet accomplishes a wide variety of measurement and control tasks, especially reporting status and readings of all RMS detectors up-the-line to the Control Room CPU /server console. High capacity hard drive, CD-writer and floppy disk drive make it easy to archive data for later analysis. * TA-RMS Soft-Gold adds: report generation, more data analysis and assists in remote down-the-line control of detector settings and parameters. Data Analysis, Display, Hard-Copy, Hard-Drive and CD-ROM Archiving TA-RMS Soft-Pro: In each data collection channel, the net counts are automatically converted to suitable engineering units. For example air and stack monitors typically read out in uCi on the filter or in concentration units, such as uCi/ml or Bq/m3 or other units of users choosing. This real time information can activate door-locks, effluent-control-valves as well as triggering the alarms. Also, all data is saved to the hard drive in spreadsheet format. Historical data is easily displayed on-screen (and/or printed out on the included graphics printer) in tabular format, showing quantitative information. Data is recorded frequently so time-resolution is excellent. TA-RMS Soft-Gold adds more data analysis including: MDA levels can be continuously calculated and recorded. Historical data is displayed and printed in graphical format, showing trends as well as quantitative information SYSTEM FLEXIBILITY Addition of new detectors as well as new calculations or functions can be made using "drag and drop" functionality of LabTech NotebooK (r) data acquisition, analysis, display and control software. So reprogramming the system can be done quickly and reliably and usually without programmers or IT personnel. HARDWARE DESCRIPTION: Model TA-RMS is a multi-function, real-time, distributed, detection system. The electronics are microprocessor with color LCD display. Plug in modules allow change or addition of functions at a later date, and allow rapid repair by module replacement in the field. The modular system is covered by TA's unique exchange warranty system in addition to the full one year warranty. 3 GHz SYSTEM SERVERS INCLUDE: 3 GHz Processor, 250 Gig Hard Drive, 1024 Meg Ram 3 each 17" LCD Monitors, Keyboard, Mouse CD-R Drive creates CDs and CD ROM Drive Full Graphics Printer, color + B/W Ethernet and Serial ports Options: Solenoid check sources T$_{\textrm{A}}$ TECHNICAL ASSOCIATES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7051 ETON AVENUE * CANOGA PARK, CA 91303 TELEPHONE (818) 883-7043 * FAX(818) 883-6103 $Revision: 1.3 $ LOCAL RMS COMPUTER AND ETHERNET NODE Model # ET-20 Description: Multi-Detector systems such as Area Monitor systems Perimeter Monitors or Sorting Table style Trash or Laundry monitors enjoy the option of feeding their amplified detector pulses directly into one or more of TA's model ET-20 which is a local RMS computer and ethernet node with 20 counters built-in. Counter Channels: The ET-20 incorporates 20 discrete counters. This design gives much better counting statistics and level-of-confidence than weaker systems using data-sampling or analog techniques. Data Analysis, Control, Display, Archiving, optional Report Generation The ET-20 sets count times, alarm trigger levels, alarm mode (latching or non-latching) and other parameters. All data is automatically displayed, archived and available for graph / trend plotting. ET-20 and the detectors become a complete, user-friendly, 20-channel, area-monitor system that is capable of handling GM, Scintillation, Proportional and pulse output Ion Chambers for Beta-Gamma and Neutron monitoring. Data Transmission For ethernet based RMS systems with more than 20 area monitor detectors, and for systems which include other detectors such as air and stack monitors, liquid monitors, etc., model ET-20 serves as an ethernet node which allows two way data flow to the main TA-RMS CPU /server and operators console, even over very long distances.
